Where do you dance?

I have found several great places to dance now that I have learned some of the steps.

Last nite I danced In Somers Point, NJ at Stumpo's Rest. Carla was there providing instruction for an hour and then we danced ourselves.

I'm finding that I am meeting such wonderful people, getting exercise and practicing my dance steps. This will make me more proficient at the steps and raise the level of my enjoyment.

I learned more advanced steps for the swing last nite. What have you done with your dancing this week? share!!!!

Seven reason why you should learn to dance.

There are so many reasons why people elect to dance. I started so I could get some exercise for weight loss and to meet some new positive people in great environments. I joined several dance classes in my area. They were easy to find and got me started. I find it a good way to socialize and meet some great dancers.

Can I give you seven reasons? Absolutely, I could think of many more given some time.

1. Dance with your partner to show your love. Find some great dance music and a little bit of floor. You can dance preparing dinner, cleaning the house, or because the sun isn’t shining and you want a lift of spirit. I find my significant other appreciates the invitation and sets a great mood.

2. Dancing is an expression of joy. We can all use more of that in our lives. Share your attitude with your friends and new acquaintances. When you were young, did you go dancing every weekend like I did? So restart a great habit.

3. When was the last time you danced? Did you have fun? Did you meet some great people with a positive attitude? Dancing is fun and provides a side benefit – exercise while socializing.

4. You can flirt. This option is open to every partner you dance with. So, be it your significant other or just a great looking guy, go for it.

5. My kids enjoyed seeing me dance around the floor. We turned it into a great family experience. You can do it seriously or just to play. The kids will join in and you will find you just had great family time.

6. I meet new people these days by taking dance lessons. It’s a healthy way to socialize and stay fit. Most of the classes I take promote partner changes. This allows me to dance with everyone in the class.

7. You go on a dance cruise. What fun! I have friends now who have done so and they gush over the quality of the cruise and the dancing opportunities provided.

Now that you want to dance again, how can your learn the dance steps?

You can take formal instruction if you are in a financial position to do so. Private instruction will provide the absolute most bang for your buck and give you the most immediate payoff. You will learn from the beginning the right way.

You can sign up for group dances. Anyone can join and a beginner will learn the basics. Some instructors offer classes for advance dancers. Since people in a group move at their own pace, this type of instruction is recommended for those who want to have a fun night out.

You can use video dance instruction. I find this method allows me to attempt moves in my own environment at my pace. I can repeat the moves until I have a grasp on the steps before trying it in public.

I find that I learn the steps in my own home more easily using Louis Van Amstel’s videos. He is the professional dancer on DancingWithTheStars. Louis is showing me the way he taught his partners to dance on the show. This is perfect! I’m having fun and learning at the same time.

Let me know how you are doing.
